Sevilla is one of the traditional Spanish teams that have a proud history but still a level below the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletico Madrid. The Andalusians have been the nearly men when it comes to Spanish football but this could yet change.
The decision to hire Julien Lopetegui was viewed as a risky one with the Spanish tactician suffering a spectacular fall with both the Spanish national team and Real Madrid. However backed by transfer guru Monchi, Sevilla have been able to assemble a quality squad.
The club lost some important players like Sarabia but have been able to cushion the loss with the addition of Jordan. While upfront the arrival of ChicharitoHernandes and Luuk de Jong has got fans excited about the team. In typical Sevilla way, the team has been slow to pick form but has gotten some nice victories in the past few matches.
Lopetegui style of high pressing and possession-based football appears to be passed down to each player. He has also given confidence to players like OCampos who has tremendous talent but is yet to settle at a particular club.
Sevilla have the hallmarks of becoming a dangerous team to play against and have started well in their favourite continental completion, the Europa League.
Where Lopetegui has had problems is his teams converting opportunities with De Jong and Chicharito scoring two goals among themselves.
He will have to look for a solution that will bring the best from the talented forwards if he is to enjoy extended success. With Monchi at the helms with transfers, the January window is expected to be a busy one for the club.
Sevilla fans will be hoping that Lopetegui is able to bring success to the team on both domestic and continental fronts. Only time will tell if the current run of recent will continue.
