MEXICO SEND RUSSIA PACKING

Russia did all they could in Kazan against Mexico but their best was not enough as the hosts were eliminated from the Confederations Cup after losing 2-1 to the visitors.

They needed at least a win to move to the semifinals, which saw them giving their best and taking the lead with a goal by Alexander Samedov in the first half.

However, the tactical Mexico side equalized with Néstor Araujo in the same first half and got the leading goal early in the second half through Hirving Lozano following the mistake from the Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.

Russia got many opportunities in the match, but poor finishing did not see them utilize it.

Several players missed clear opportunities throughout the match played in front of 41,585 people at Kazan Arena. The host players gathered in the middle of the pitch to hail the fans after the final whistle was blown as the crowd continued to applaud them.

The first goal of the match came in the 25th minute after the striker Fedor Smolov struck reached the goalkeeper with a rocketed shot and Yury Zhirkov had his shot saved by Guillermo Ochoa. Continue reading MEXICO SEND RUSSIA PACKING

CHICHARITO HELPS MEXICO TO REACH HEX TOP

Mexican football recorded a high when the national team defeated Costa Rica 2-0.

Winning that battle has helped the nation to the top of the Hexagonal round in CONCACAF World Cup qualification.

The night would be one embattled striker Javier Hernandez would not forget in a long while. The night saw him get a goal after nine months. The former Manchester United hitman equaled Borgetti’s record in fine style. The El Tri legend scored 46 goals in 89 appearances for Mexico and Chicharito equaled it when he scored his 46th as well on his 89th match.

Doing this when the states were high – a major World Cup qualifying match – was much more praised than if it were during the friendly game against the US or Trinidad and Tobago next week.

Former Gunner star Carlos Vela sent a well-timed pass to the player in the 7th minute. Chicharito lifted the ball over the onrushing Madrid keeper KeylorNavas. Estadio Azteca, which hosted the match, went wild in celebrations. Continue reading CHICHARITO HELPS MEXICO TO REACH HEX TOP

HERNANDEZ MAY LEAVE BAYER LEVERKUSEN – VOLLER

Rudi Voller, sporting director for Bayer Leverkusen has admitted that Javier Chicharito Hernandez could leave the club if they receive a crazy offer during the open transfer window this month.

Last season had seen Chicharito rediscover his best form after he was deemed as surplus to requirements by Louis Van Gaal, who took over from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

However, the former Red Devils striker has found it quite harder to score goals this season and has featured in no less than 15 games without adding a single goal to his seven-goals so far in all competitions,

Voller has insisted that Chicharito, despite his lack of form, remains pivotal to the ambitions of the club. However, he did not mince words as he went on to admit that where Leverkusen gets a big money offer for the player, the club would be left with no option than to sell him.

Speaking to new reporters, Voller said: Continue reading HERNANDEZ MAY LEAVE BAYER LEVERKUSEN – VOLLER

Chicharito to Real Madrid

There are media reports that Real Madrid might be interested in signing former Manchester United striker Chicharito.

The player who spent one season on loan from Manchester United is reported to be the target of the Spanish side.

This will come as a surprise given the fact that Chicharito failed to adapt to the pace of La Liga and only managed to feature in 10 games for them. He ultimately returned to Manchester United before being sold to Bayer Leverkusen.

However, it is believed that the Spanish club has changed their mind on the player and that they might be interested in bringing him back to Spain. Indeed Chicharito has found a new life in Germany where he has managed to score 33 goals in 50 appearances for the club.

It is probably this good form that has prompted the Real Madrid director  Aguado to make inquiries for the player. The latter stated that Chicharito is a great player and that he will be interested in bringing the player back to Real Madrid as he believes he can be a wonderful addition to the current squad. LUKE SHAW GETS READY FOR DERBY

Manchester United player Luke Shaw is expected to feature in the derby against Manchester City.

The derby is the star game of the weekend as players return from the international break. Man United and City have nine points apiece after winning their first three games, so the game would decide who goes top or if they would allow Chelsea – who also have nine points – go top.

Shaw wasn’t in action for the Three Lions under Coach Sam Allardyce when they played Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier. He missed out in training on Saturday, but is currently fighting fitness concerns to be able to feature against City, reports say.

Last term, the player picked up a double leg-break in September. The injury ensured he missed many games, but he is hoping to make up this term. England coach Allardyce said of his injury: “It’s a slight problem with the leg. A little ache – muscular. With what he’s been through, we didn’t want to take a chance where the break was.”
